Winterizing

It's already October and the leaves are beginning to change color. There's a slight breeze in the air that smells like fallen leaves. And... it is getting colder!

What does this mean for your plumbing?

We are still a few weeks away from temperatures dropping below freezing. This is the time to prepare and educate yourself. When water freezes in your drains, it causes your pipes to crack and break. When springtime rolls around and everything begins to defrost, you'll see the wet effect.

What can I do?

Do not stress, we have a few tips to help.

Primary Residence

1. If you are living in the home, you will want to make sure all hoses are disconnected and to shut off the water supply to any faucets outside. Then make sure to drain any water in the faucet to prevent that from freezing over the winter months.

2. You will want to ensure that your crawl spaces and attics (places that are not heated) are insulated. Depending on the area, you may use foam, heat tape, or cables.

3. Keep heat on indoors! This will help to prevent water running through the pipes in your home from freezing causing damage.

Vacant Residence

1. If you are needing your vacation home or uninhabited rental property winterized, we would recommend turning off the main water supply.

2. Give us a call! We recommend having a professional come through to winterize your property to ensure that no damage is done to pipes and/or fixtures throughout your investment.
